Laser Diode

A Semiconductor that emits Coherent Light when forward biased.

laser diode (LD) is a semiconductor device that emits high powered, coherent Light when stimulated by an electrical current. They are used in transmitters for single Mode Fiber links.

The active medium in a Laser Diode is a semiconductor similar to those found in light emitting diodes (LEDs).

Laser diodes are the most common types of lasers. They have a wide array of applications from fiber optic Telecommunications to measuring instruments. They are used in barcode readers, laser pointers and CD and DVD players. Laser diodes also have industrial applications such as heat treating and seam welding.
