Fiber Cables

Thin strands of glass used to transmit digital information are called fiber cables.

Fiber cables have three main parts:

  • Core - the glass center of the fiber.
  • Cladding - The material surrounding the core of the fiber.
  • Buffer coating - The protective coating applied directly to the fiber.

Fiber cables have numerous advantages over other types of cables.

Fiber cables are immune to EMI and RFI unlike copper cables. They also are non-flammable and use less power. Fiber cables are better for data transmission because they have less signal degradation than typical copper wires.
