Fibre Channel
Fibre Channel is a gigabit-speed Network technology primarily used for storage networking.
Fibre Channel began in 1988 as a way to simplify the HIPPI system. HIPPI used large 50-pair cables and gigantic connectors, with limited Cable lengths. Fibre Channel was mainly interested in simplifying the connections and increasing the lengths, instead of just increasing speed. Later, it broadened the focus to Address SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) disk storage, providing higher speeds and FAR greater numbers of connected devices.
