Fiber Cable

Fiber cable is cable made of thin strands of glass. Digital information can be transmitted using these strands.

A fiber cable has the following parts:

• Core - the thin glass center of the fiber where light travels and data is transmitted.
• Cladding - The material that surrounds the core of a fiber to contain core light while protecting against surface contaminant scattering.
• Buffer coating - Protective coating applied directly on the fiber.

Fiber optic bundles contain many optical fibers and are protected by the cable's outer covering, or jacket.

Fiber cables have many advantages over other types of cables. Fiber cables have a smaller diameter and weigh less than traditional copper wires. They use less power while having a higher transmission capacity than copper wires. They are non-flammable and are better suited for digital and light signal transmission as they provide less signal degradation.
