Common Carrier
An organization licensed by some public regulatory authority, e.g. the FCC, to provide a specific set of
services for a specific set of rates. Common means the carrier is obligated to carry for everyone.
Carrier means they convey something - freight, data, etc. - for their customers. Examples are GTE
Sprint, Yellow Freight, AT&T Communications, MCI, American Airlines.
