General Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that material orders are scheduled, placed, and managed to meet demand, cost, quality, delivery, reliability, and inventory objectives
  • Manage part sourcing to optimize supplier performance and meet customer requirements
  • Research, prepare and issue bid specifications and requests to potential vendors and suppliers
  • Be responsive to requests (internal & external) and participate in meetings with supply, engineering, production, purchasing, and sales departments to identify and resolve issues
  • Provide ongoing business review with suppliers, including supplier report card data
  • Manage non-conforming/discrepant materials issues with suppliers, including management of root-cause corrective-action activity
  • Ensue that ERP system planning parameters reflect purchasing conditions for each supplier and component, providing high supplier on-time delivery performance
  • Provide escalation communication when necessary to remedy supplier performance issues
  • Investigate and cultivate new sources for supplies and products 
  • Analyze, plan and control replenishment levels
  • Create tactics & strategies for changes in cost, lead-time, demand, supply base, new products, and customer needs
  • Look for continuous improvement in system and procedure updates, cost reduction, corrective action, and development of purchasing tools
  • Support Sales/Business Development for quote requirements
  • Support Manufacturing in resolving component availability issues

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years in procurement and/or commodity management in a manufacturing organization
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, or related field 
  • Strong Excel skills: look up functions, pivot tables, etc. 
  • Proficient in MS Word and PowerPoint
  • Proficient and thorough communication ability to internal stakeholders and external suppliers, transmitting ideas or information with clarity, verbally and/or written
  • Strong problem solving skills: Ability to recognize problems, break down complex tasks into logical, measurable and actionable steps and act appropriately to closure
  • Ability to multi-task, dynamically prioritize tasks, and communicate status to organization
  • Ability to communicate metrics and utilize them to enhance business performance
  • Ability to plan, organize and lead effective meetings with relevant stakeholders
  • Strong ability to format data into meaningful information indicating clear actions supported by facts
  • Ability to participate and influence problem solving and process improvements
  • Thorough understanding blanket supply, Kanban agreements and commercial purchasing terms
  • Ability to interpret reporting tools and action messages to procure material promptly
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
  • Experience managing domestic and international suppliers of varying sizes
  • Ability to exercise judgment within defined procedure to determine appropriate actions
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Willingness to take initiative
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Experience with Sage 500 
  • Experience in procurement for fiber optic and/or cable components 
  • Experience in procurement for defense/military programs
