  Job Title: Design Engineer – Fiber Optics

  Reports to: VP of Engineering
  
  Job Type: Full Time

  General Responsibilities:
   • Generate design concepts for new projects based on customer requirements.
   • Suggest creative ways to improve existing designs from both a cost and functional perspective.
   • Drive research and development activities in support of new product development initiatives.
   • Create concept (prototype) drawings, models and proof of concepts.
   • Develop product designs using information provided by Engineers, Project Managers, or Sales supporting both manufacturing fabrication and end product application along with customer requirements using ANSI Y14 guidelines and in various styles (formal release, sketch, digital photo) to best match need.
   • Research and define products with a focus on design for manufacturability.
   • Maintain models and drawings in a configuration management system.
   • Participate in design review and new product introduction meetings.
   • Qualification of new product and component performance and application.
   • Provide product costing in support of new product designs to support the Sales and Marketing organizations.
   • Stay informed on emerging technologies and new products in the opto-electric, laser and fiber optic fields.

  Skills and Qualifications:
   • BS degree in an Engineering or Physics based curriculum with a minimum of two years practical experience or a minimum of four years in an Engineering role, preferable in the opto-electric or laser industry
   • Proficiency in Solidworks or experience with a 3-D Modeling software
   • Knowledge of configuration management, experience with Solidworks PDM.
   • ISO/AS9100 experience
   • Experience with Bills of Materials, Engineering Change Notices and other various Engineering documentation
   • Ability to identify risk, characterize the impact and mitigate the exposure for the end product.
   • Knowledge of ASME dimensioning and tolerance.
   • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and drawings.
   • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
   • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills
   • Ability to control diverse priorities and assignments
   • Strong attention to detail
   • Project Management skills desireable
